Why Buddy Pokemon Matter
With Buddy Pokémon you can earn candy, meet evolution prerequisites, and gain exclusive combat bonuses by increasing your Friendship Level. The Best Buddy perks also directly affect Raiding and PoGO PvP. Walking with buddies is one of the main ways to farm candy, get for Legendary/Mythic pokemon, acquire primal energy, and stockpile Mega Energy.
Friendship Level
By interacting with your Buddy Pokemon they will gain hearts, which increases their Friendship Level. Depending on which of the four levels you've achieved you'll get different perks. Do note, that you'll also retain all perks of the previous friendship levels.
Good Buddy (1 Heart)
- Will adventure with you on the overworld map
Great Buddy (70 Hearts)
- Can assist while catching pokemon
- Will bring you presents containing certain items
Ultra Buddy (150 Hearts)
- Will notify you about interesting locations nearby
- Will being you souvenirs
Best Buddy (300 Hearts)
- Will increase their max level by one
Regardless of Friendship Level, walking with a pokemon that is level 31+ has a chance to grant an XL candy.
Getting Buddy Hearts
As mentioned in the Friendship Level section you'll need to gain hearts with your buddy in order to level-up your friendship level. By interacting with your pokemon in various ways you can gain hearts. Below are a couple tips to help you quickly get hearts.
Getting your buddy excited is important because it allows you to get twice the daily hear limit.
