Max Particles

Power Spots
In addition to the Max Battles, and collecting Max Particles, Power Spots are the place on the overworld map where Max Battles take place. However, they also have additional effects that can help progressing.
Candy Farming
When you clear a Max Battle you have the option of leaving one of your Team Members behind to help other trainers clear the battle. When they do you'll collect a candy for the same species of Pokemon you left behind.
You can gain a maximum of 5 candies this way, meaning you can recall them after hitting 5 and still retain the maximum possible benefits. When leaving a pokemon behind this counts toward you gym control cap of 20 pokemon.
Wild Spawns
There is a chance when you enter a Power Spot that you'll see an "encounter icon" and be able to catch a wild pokemon. The pokemon you catch this way aren't max eligible, but you can see this video for a visual example.
Max Meter
Each time you use a fast or charged attack you'll gain 1 point toward filling your Max Meter. Once full you'll be able to dynamax/gigantamax your pokemon and use your Max Moves. You can also watch this video for a full breakdown of how charging the Max Meter works.
Max Moves
Once you've filled your Max Meter you'll be able to use up to 3 Max Moves. By default all max pokemon will have three types of Max Moves and you can level them up by using Max Particles and candy to a maximum of level 3.
- Max Attack - Will damage the opposing pokemon
- Level 1: (D)250 / (G)350
- Level 2: (D)300 / (G)400
- Level 3: (D)350 / (G)450
- Max Guard - Provides shields to all active pokemon
- Level 1: +20 Bonus HP
- Level 2: +40 Bonus HP
- Level 3: +60 Bonus HP
- Max Spirit - Heals all active pokemon
- Level 1: Heals for 8% of total HP
- Level 2: Heals for 12% of total HP
- Level 3: Heals for 16% of total HP
Battle Roles
In Max Battles there are three main roles that can be filled, each serving a important purpose.
Defender
This is the main workhorse of the team outside of the Max Phase. A defender has high defense and HP stats, is resistant to opponent, and has a 0.5 second fast attack to quickly charge the Max Meter as fast as possible. These pokemon will always want to have their Max Guard leveled up. You can see a list of the top defenders here.
Healer
Healers have high HP and will use Max Spirit to heal the team during the max phase. You'll heal the team based on a percentage of your total HP once you have your Max Spirit leveled up. You can see a list of top healers here.
Attacker
Attackers are the powerhouse that we'll swap in during the max phase to deal super effective damage with our Max Attack. You'll want to ensure you have a high attack pokemon and your Max Attack is leveled up to deal the most damage possible. You can see a list of the top attackers here.
Battle Strategy
- Start with your Defender or Healer using ONLY fast moves to charge the Max Meter
- Don't use charged moves since they do a negligent amount of damage and slow down your Max Meter gains
- If targeted by the opposing Pokemon swipe left/right to dodge incomg attacks
- When the Max Meter is charged you have a couple options:
- Use max sheild or spirit to help sustain
- Swap out to your Attacker
- once the max phase is complete you usually want to swap back to your Defender or Healer
- Rinse and repeat until you wint the battle
Best Pokemon for Dynamax Battles
In order to clear 5-star max battles you'll need the right pokemon in your team. Since there are three main roles in max battles, best pokemon depends on which role you're trying to fill.
