Search Strings & Tags

What is This?

This page is full of information on keeping your Collection Organized in #PokemonGO with
Search Strings, Tags, & Naming Conventions. The real magic of my system for organization comes alive using the Calcy IV App. This allows us to quickly rename and tag our Pokemon so they are easily sorted for later usage.

Collection Organization

Managing your collection of pokemon is really important to the long-term success and increasing the overall "power" of your account. No one wants to wait while you rearrange you're team constantly while Raiding. This is done by using a mixture of Custom Search Strings, Tags, & Naming Conventions.

Search String Syntax

You can see the PoGO Help Article - Search & Filtering for a full guide on syntax. Below you can also find some key highlights that are useful to memorize for easy searching later.

Custom Search Strings

Below are premade search strings I use regularly. I've listed them in the order I use them when clearing out my storage after a session of playing. Meaning I run the below strings in the order they are presented, to favorite/tag the keepers. Then run the quick transfer search which will exclude any favorites. Finally, run the sorting string to ensure I finalize my naming schemes, tags, and favorites to keep my collection organized.

Tags

Using tags seems really basic, however the more granular your tags are the more effective they become. This is because you can create tags for specific pokemon by types or use-case. Below is a full list of my custom tags that I use; They are presented in the same order I have them in game. This is so I can easily scroll to the key tags while I'm out and refine/retag when I'm sorting through my catches later at home.

Naming Conventions

After Tagging a Pokemon I rename it using Calcy IV's Auto Renaming & Boxes feature. You can download the Calcy IV App here. Below I get into settings I've changed and the Boxes & Renaming I setup.

Changing Calcy IV Settings

There are a few minor tweaks I make to Calcly IV to get it to work well with the rest of our Organization System. Navigate to Settings > Boxes & Renaming then make the changes below:

Boxes & Renaming

Below is a breakdown of how I've configured my settings for Boxes & Renaming in Calcy IV. All boxes appear in the order I have they setup in Calcy IV for easy usage.

The System in Action

When I'm out catching pokemon I usually try to clear my recent catches once every hour or two. To do this effectively I take the following steps:

  1. Run a 91% Search String to favorite and Tag any results with PvE?
  2. Run a GBL Strict Search to favorite and Tag any results with PvP?
  3. Run a GBL Expanded Search to favorite and Tag any results with PvP?
  4. Finally run a Quick Transfer search and transfer any results
    • For my own peace of mind I do appraise these pokemon quickly and favorite them since the 91% Search String won't show any "non-conventional" 91% Pokemon.

Then once I'm all done catching or have returned home I do the following:

  1. Start up the Calcy IV App
  2. Run a Sorting Search and scan the results using Calcy IV and rename them accordingly
  3. Then change the Tags to Later-R, Later-A, Later-D, Later-X, or Later-G
  4. Compare any catches to pokemon in my collection and transfer the worst results

This now leaves you in the position to add any additional tags to the pokemon you've Tagged for Later. Which means you can easily find the pokemon you want to prioritize for leveling up, evolving, fixing moves, or change them to the final Tags once their BR (aka Battle Ready).

By using this methodology I'm able to keep everything very granular and organized without having to goof around when I'm out and about at Pokemon Go Events or Raiding with friends.
